The Zen Nihon Batto Do Renmei (ZNBDR) is composed of member martial arts organizations dedicated to the practice and preservation of Batto Do, with a primary focus on tameshigiri, or test cutting with the Japanese sword. The organization is governed by a council of officers elected from among the representatives of its participating member organizations.
ZNBDR was founded to promote mutual friendship, technical improvement, and cooperation among various martial arts groups, including Batto Do dojo and practitioners of traditional koryu iaido. By bringing together practitioners across the boundaries of different ryuha, or schools of technique, the federation seeks to encourage unity, shared learning, and the continued development of Batto Do.
To support these goals, ZNBDR has established its own standardized kata and tameshigiri criteria. The organization conducts seminars, workshops, competitions, and examinations for dan ranks and instructional titles, providing a structured path for technical growth, certification, and the broader dissemination of Batto Do both in Japan and internationally.
